Manufacturing activity has accelerated in January as the producer price index (PPI) rose to 0.1 percent from negative 4 percent in December 2013, the first time after posting negative annual rates since June 2012.
The National Statistics Office (NSO) noted that 13 sectors contributed to the positive annual rate led by miscellaneous manufactures with a significant increase of 12.1 percent.
On the other hand, furniture and fixtures with a double-digit decrease of 36.8 percent led the five sectors that posted decrements.
On a month-on-month basis, PPI inched up to 0.6 percent in January 2014 from 0.5 percent in December 2013.
Machinery except electrical (4.5%) led the 12 sectors with single-digit increases in prices. On the other hand, five sectors posted flat growths while three sectors posted decrements.
